As SPEED Contract Manager for the CEC, David Weightman provides a critical connection to CEC staff, communicating priorities for SPEED Program activities based on California’s energy efficiency goals. In addition, he acts as liaison to facilitate updates of technology status information from other PIER projects, as well as feedback of demonstration progress and deployment successes back to CEC staff. David earned an MS in Urban & Regional Planning/Energy Analysis and Policy from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

As SPEED Program Demonstrations Manager, Karl Johnson is responsible for the development of demonstration projects and leads pilot scaled deployment efforts to accelerate technology adoption. He works closely with key SPEED technology partners CLTC and WCEC, and is the primary liaison with demonstration hosts. In addition, Karl is co-lead for technology status prioritization and co-liaison with the UC/CSU/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership. Karl has 30 years experience in energy efficiency research, development and demonstration, and excels in collaborative program and project management, evaluation of new technologies, and market connection programs.

Karl Brown is SPEED Program Director and primary liaison with CEC in establishing the program’s direction and priorities. He also lends his technical expertise as lead for monitoring-based commissioning and other special technology transfer projects. Working with Karl Johnson, Karl acts as a co-lead for technology status prioritization and co-liaison with the UC/CSU/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership. A CIEE staff member since 1991, Karl has more than 25 years of experience in energy systems engineering and is an expert in 'deep energy efficiency' in buildings.

CLTC Program Director Cori Jackson is the center’s staff lead on SPEED lighting demonstrations. As the primary engineer, she plays a key role in the success of SPEED’s lighting technology installations. Cory also acts as co-liaison with manufacturers and vendors for technology status information and for feedback of demonstration experience to improve product quality. She has facilitated the installation of leading-edge lighting technologies in more than 90 sites throughout California. Cori graduated from UC Davis with degrees in Optical Engineering and Mathematics.

Michael Siminovitch is Director and co-founder of CLTC and the creative lead for SPEED lighting technology and applications. Working with Cori Jackson, he also contributes as co-liaison with manufacturers and vendors for technology status information and feedback to product development. Michael established CLTC as an industry, utility, and government partnership to accelerate the development and commercialization of efficient residential and commercial lighting technologies.

As CLTC’s Outreach Director, Kelly Cunningham is the lead for SPEED case study document design, as well as in the development of a range of technology transfer materials for the web and other media. Her CLTC role provides opportunities to represent SPEED, providing information about energy-efficient lighting technologies to the lighting industry, project partners, and the public through online and printed publications, tours, events, and reporting.

Associate Development Engineer Jonathan Woolley is WCEC’s staff lead on SPEED HVAC and other non-lighting demonstrations. He is the primary engineer for SPEED HVAC demonstrations and co-liaison with manufacturers and vendors for technology status information and demonstration experience feedback for product improvement. A UC Davis educated mechanical engineer, Jonathan’s other focus at WCEC is on testing, evaluation, and simulation of hybrid technologies to improve cooling efficiency in commercial and residential buildings by more than 40%.

Mark Modera, Director of WCEC, provides general oversight for the center’s activities supporting the SPEED program, including most HVAC and other non-lighting demonstrations. Mark partners with Jonathan Woolley as co-liaison with manufacturers and vendors for technology status information. Mark is a UC Davis Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and an Associate Director of the campus’ Energy Efficiency Center as well as the Sempra Energy Chair in Energy Efficiency.
